October 24, 2009 will be an important day in the history of human kind. In over 160 countries across the globe communities will hold actions as part of the largest global day of climate action ever. The International Day of Climate Action is coordinated by 350.org to urge world leaders to take fast and effective action on global warming. This is the first global campaign ever organized around a scientific data point: 350 parts per million CO2 is the safe upper limit for the atmosphere according to the latest scientific data. We are at 390 and we need to take action now to protect the world’s people and ecosystems.

In Santa Fe local youth, organizations, and concerned citizens have come together to raise awareness about the latest science, what we can all do to help, and to deliver a powerful message to our elected officials as international political leaders prepare for the Climate Summit in Copenhagen this December. We will be creating a giant human postcard photo, holding a coal march and a procession of trees, as well as a rally at the roundhouse. Images of the events held around the world will be streaming at Times Square in New York and at the UN Climate Summit in December. We want to let the world know that Santa Feans care about the environment and are ready to take positive action to address climate change.
